Due to the retirements of Al Cunningham, Rick Carlstedt, and Connie Rassmussen, District 47 will have three new instructional leaders at the helm of North Elementary School, Lundahl Middle School, and West Elementary School as we begin the 2006-2007 school year.
At the January 16, 2006 school board meeting, the Board of Education approved the promotion of Kimberly Hornberg from North Elementary School’s assistant principal to its principal. In the ten years that Kimberly has been in District 47 she has proven herself to be a quality educator and leader. She began as a language arts teacher at Lundahl Middle School in August of 1996 and moved to Hannah Beardsley Middle School in 1999. In January of 2001, Kimberly was appointed the assistant principal at Coventry Elementary School. In order to broaden Kimberly’s administrative exposure, she was moved to Bernotas Middle School as an assistant principal and served in that capacity for 3 years. In the spring of 2005, Kimberly applied for and received the assistant principal position at North Elementary School. Kimberly was an immediate hit with the students, parents, and teachers and was chosen to replace Al Cunningham as the next principal.
In March of 2006 the Board Members approved Donn Mendoza as the next principal of Lundahl Middle School. For the first time since 1991, District 47 is bringing in a principal from outside the district. Donn comes to District 47 from Barrington District 220 where he serves as a middle school principal in a school that has over 1,000 students and 100 staff members. One of the things that attracted us to Donn was his elementary and middle school experience as an administrator. He began his teaching at the elementary school level and has served as an assistant principal and principal in both the elementary and middle school settings. Donn believes that partnerships between families and the schools need to be cultivated and nurtured in - Continued

order for middle school students to continue the success they experienced at the elementary school level. Mr. Mendoza was the obvious choice to succeed Rick Carlstedt as the Lundahl Middle School principal.
Also in March of 2006, the Board approved Jean Bevevino as the principal of West Elementary School. Jean has an extremely strong curriculum background and all of her teaching experiences have been at the elementary grade levels. Her career in District 47 began in 1999 when she was hired as a 5th grade teacher at Indian Prairie Elementary School. In 2002, the district appointed Jean as the Curriculum Specialist in charge of language arts and social studies for 5th through 8th grade. Her duties included the design and implementation of language arts and social studies curriculum as well as working with teachers throughout the district to help bring best practices into their classrooms. Most recently, Jean agreed to step in and fill a temporary vacancy as assistant principal at Canterbury Elementary School. Jean’s love of children and her curriculum knowledge will certainly take West School to the next level. We are extremely excited to have Jean Bevevino assume the leadership reins of West Elementary School from Connie Rasmussen.
