We are now the North Star Huskies!

                       Northchalkboardwelcome.jpg
The build up was incredible! It was definitely the talk around the town! Students, parents, families and staff of North School were given the opportunity to take part in a historical election...the right to add a mascot name to the traditional North Stars!

Many different suggestions for a new mascot were submitted, and the choices were narrowed down to the Husky and the Hawk. The votes were submitted and tallied up on Monday,  November 3rd. And...the winner was...the HUSKY!

So, we are now officially the North Star Huskies!

Silver Bells: Fall Fundraiser!

Untitled-4.jpgProduct pick-up will be held in the gym on Thursday, November 20th, between 3:30-8:00PM. We ask that you please plan to pick up your items during that time, if you participated in the fundraiser.

There was an amazing response to the program! Way to go, North Star Huskies!

Progress Reports are coming home on Friday, Nov. 21

girlfolderpack-web.jpgJust a reminder that you will be seeing your child's progress report from the first trimester come home with them on Friday, November 21st.

The information on the progress report will be discussed during Parent-Teacher conferences. Parent-Teacher conferences are on Monday and Tuesday, November 24th and 25th. More information about conferences can be found on our homepage!

Parent-Teacher Conferences, Nov. 24 & 25

teacher meets student.jpgParent-teacher conferences for students in Grades 1-5 will be taking place on Monday, November 24th and on Tuesday, November 25th.  Each parent-teacher conference for students in Grades 1-5 will be 20 minutes.

Parent-teacher conferences are a wonderful opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher and learn all about the progress your child has been making this year.  There will also be the opportunity for your child to join in on the discussion and this time will be decided by the teacher and parent/guardian.

There will also be an area outside of each classroom designated for North student activity.  Pre-school age children and infants will need to remain under the direct supervision of the parents/guardians during the scheduled conference time.

Parent-teacher conferences for Kindergarten students will be taking place on Friday, November 21st, Monday, November 24th and on Tuesday, November 25th.  Kindergarten parent-teacher conferences will be limited to 15 minutes in length and will not involve the students due to the number of parents that our Kindergarten teachers need to see.

We are all very appreciative of our Parents/Guardians that take the time out of their busy schedules to meet with our teachers during conference time.

Student Dismissal Areas

thumb_three_kids_dwn_perspective.jpgIf your child does not take the bus home you can retrieve your children after school in three areas.

Parents utilizing our parking permit system should head to our parking lot and join the line of cars leading to the pick-up area. The children will be in the pick-up area, which is right outside of Door 1. They will be escorted to your car, once you pull forward.  We encourage you to utilize this easy-in, easy-out service if you plan to pick up your child each day.

Students who walk home from school or plan to meet a parent on the front lawn will exit through one of two doors: students in rooms 1-15 & 42-45 will exit through Door 6 and students in rooms 18-32, 38 & 39 will exit through our main entrance (Door 4).

We hope this information assists you at the end of the school day.  If your end of the day plans change, be sure to send a note with your child to his/her teacher.  In cases of emergency, you can contact the main office and we would happy to pass that information on to your child.

Connecting to Readers at Home

reading book-web.jpgIt is important that your reader is aware that reading should make sense and sound like "talking". If it does not, there are strategies other than sounding out at the word level. Try to sound out the words "caught" and "thought". Do they make sense to you?

We recommend that your child gets the word started with the beginning letter sound and then think about what word would make sense in that sentence. Reading should always be meaning driven!

At school, we encourage students to do this simple strategy so they are meaning driven; supporting this practice at home will help make your student a successful reader!

Delays in Bus Routes

bus.jpgAt times during afternoon dismissal at school, our buses do not always depart at their scheduled time. Some buses arrive before others, and this is mainly due to traffic, road construction and weather within the surrounding areas. As a rule of thumb, the majority of our buses do not leave until 3:40PM or so.
