H1N1 Case Confirmed in District 47
The McHenry County Department of Health has contacted District 47 with information that one of our students has tested positive for the H1N1 influenza virus. We felt it best to inform you of this so that you can continue to monitor the health of your child in case he/she demonstrated any symptoms- cough, fever (greater than 100 degrees), sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Continue to encourage your child & all family members to practice good hygiene by regularly washing hands, covering mouths/noses when sneezing with the inner arm, etc…

March is traditionally the season of tornadoes. Therefore, our students have participating in tornado drills. We take these and all other drills very seriously and assure you that your children are safe and secure in their areas.
To review the terminology, the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning is as follows: Tornado Watch simply means the conditions are right for a tornado. Residents should be on the lookout for them. You DO NOT have to take shelter during a watch. During a watch, your children will be sent home at the end of the school day. All school and outside groups, i.e. Brownies, park district, will be canceled. Please be sure to make alternative arrangements for your child with friends or neighbors in the event you are not home when your child arrives. Tornado Warning means a tornado has been sighted and you MUST take shelter as quickly as possible.

Public Library & Families |
|
For families with young children, the public library is a great place to find entertainment, educational or cultural enrichment, or valuable information. Here are some reasons why you should go:
1. Free programs and activities: From author visits to puppet shows to family films, libraries offer programs with kid appeal after school, on the weekends, and during the summer. Ask your librarian for the schedule of upcoming events.
2. Story times: There’s nothing like hearing a good story read by someone who loves to read aloud. Libraries are terrific settings for story times which often include finger plays, games, songs, and crafts that can be learned and enjoyed again at home.
3. Workshops: Many libraries offer workshops that can help enrich your life as an adult and support you as a parent. At many libraries, it is possible to learn to knit, prepare your taxes, update your résumé, gain computer skills, or improve your parenting skills.
4. Books: Librarians are happy to make recommendations and most public libraries have a special section just for children’s books.
